data channel
PHYSICAL OR LOGICAL CONNECTION USED FOR TRANSMISSION OF INFORMATION
Channel (communications); Communications channel; Input-output channel; Channel model; Data channel; Coherent transmission; Transmission channel; Voice channel
<communications> A channel (on a BRI or PRI line) used to carry control information, to set up connections on the associated bearer channels. The name wasn't too bad back when users were sending voice (not data) over the {bearer channels}, but in 1997 it's quite a misnomer. (1997-03-10)
Channel Lightvessel

Channel Light Vessel Automatic
Channel was the name of a lightvessel station located in the English Channel between 1979 and August 2021, when it was replaced with a light buoy. It was also one of the 22 coastal weather stations whose conditions were reported in the BBC Shipping Forecast.
Sodium channel blocker
  • Effect of class Ib antiarrhythmic agents on the cardiac action potential.
  • Class Ia agent decreasing Vmax, thereby increasing action potential duration.
  • Effect of class Ic antiarrhythmic agent on cardiac action potential.
CLASS OF DRUGS THAT ACT BY INHIBITION OF SODIUM INFLUX THROUGH CELL MEMBRANES
Sodium channel blockers; Sodium channel inhibitor; Sodium channel blocking
Sodium channel blockers are drugs which impair the conduction of sodium ions (Na+) through sodium channels.
Abyssal channel
CHANNELS IN THE SEA FLOOR FORMED BY FAST-FLOWING TURBIDITY CURRENTS
Submarine channel; Deep-sea channel; Underwater channel; Deep-Sea Channel; Channel levee systems; Channel levee system; Abyssal Channel; Deep-sea channels; Submarine channels; Deep-sea current; Deep-Sea Current; Deep-sea Current; Deep sea current; Deep Sea current; Deep sea Current
Abyssal channels (also, deep-sea channels, underwater channels) are channels in Earth's sea floor. They are formed by fast-flowing floods of turbid water caused by avalanches near the channel's head, with the sediment carried by the water causing a build-up of the surrounding abyssal plains.
Brač Channel
SEA BETWEEN BRAČ AND MAINLAND
Brac channel; Brac Channel
The Brač Channel () is a channel in the Adriatic Sea between the Dalmatian mainland and the island of Brač.
SOFAR channel
  • Bathymetry profile with SOFAR channel axis depth, Heard Island to Ascension Island.
  • Profile showing sound channel axis and bottom at critical depth. Where bottom profile intrudes into the sound channel propagation is bottom limited.
  • Acoustic pulses travel great distances in the ocean because they are trapped in an acoustic [[wave guide]]. This means that as acoustic pulses approach the surface they are turned back towards the bottom, and as they approach the ocean bottom they are turned back towards the surface. The ocean conducts sound very efficiently, particularly sound at low frequencies, i.e., less than a few hundred Hz
HORIZONTAL LAYER OF WATER IN THE OCEAN AT WHICH DEPTH THE SPEED OF SOUND IS AT ITS MINIMUM
Deep sound channel; Sofar channel; Sound channel axis; Sound Fixing and Ranging channel; Sonic Layer Depth
The SOFAR channel (short for sound fixing and ranging channel), or deep sound channel (DSC), is a horizontal layer of water in the ocean at which depth the speed of sound is at its minimum. The SOFAR channel acts as a waveguide for sound, and low frequency sound waves within the channel may travel thousands of miles before dissipating.
Roller-compacted concrete
  • Gilgel Gibe III Dam
SPECIAL BLEND OF CONCRETE
Roller compacted concrete; Rolled concrete; Rolled Concrete; Rolled concrete dam; Rollcrete
Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) or rolled concrete (rollcrete) is a special blend of concrete that has essentially the same ingredients as conventional concrete but in different ratios, and increasingly with partial substitution of fly ash for Portland cement.Roller Compacted concrete (RCC) The partial substitution of fly ash for Portland Cement is an important aspect of RCC dam construction because the heat generated by fly ash hydration is significantly less than the heat generated by Portland Cement hydration.

The Velebit Channel (, or ; or ) is a channel in Croatia located between the lands at the foot of the Velebit mountain range and the islands of Pag, Rab, Goli Otok, Prvić and Krk. It is about long, with an average width of and up to deep.
Covert channel
TYPE OF COMPUTER SECURITY ATTACK THAT CREATES A CAPABILITY TO TRANSFER INFORMATION OBJECTS BETWEEN PROCESSES THAT ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ALLOWED TO COMMUNICATE
Covert channels; Timing channel; Timing channels
In computer security, a covert channel is a type of attack that creates a capability to transfer information objects between processes that are not supposed to be allowed to communicate by the computer security policy. The term, originated in 1973 by Butler Lampson, is defined as channels "not intended for information transfer at all, such as the service program's effect on system load," to distinguish it from legitimate channels that are subjected to access controls by COMPUSEC.

Rolling

Rolling is a type of motion that combines rotation (commonly, of an axially symmetric object) and translation of that object with respect to a surface (either one or the other moves), such that, if ideal conditions exist, the two are in contact with each other without sliding.

Rolling where there is no sliding is referred to as pure rolling. By definition, there is no sliding when there is a frame of reference in which all points of contact on the rolling object have the same velocity as their counterparts on the surface on which the object rolls; in particular, for a frame of reference in which the rolling plane is at rest (see animation), the instantaneous velocity of all the points of contact (e.g., a generating line segment of a cylinder) of the rolling object is zero.

In practice, due to small deformations near the contact area, some sliding and energy dissipation occurs. Nevertheless, the resulting rolling resistance is much lower than sliding friction, and thus, rolling objects, typically require much less energy to be moved than sliding ones. As a result, such objects will more easily move, if they experience a force with a component along the surface, for instance gravity on a tilted surface, wind, pushing, pulling, or torque from an engine. Unlike cylindrical axially symmetric objects, the rolling motion of a cone is such that while rolling on a flat surface, its center of gravity performs a circular motion, rather than a linear motion. Rolling objects are not necessarily axially-symmetrical. Two well known non-axially-symmetrical rollers are the Reuleaux triangle and the Meissner bodies. The oloid and the sphericon are members of a special family of developable rollers that develop their entire surface when rolling down a flat plane. Objects with corners, such as dice, roll by successive rotations about the edge or corner which is in contact with the surface. The construction of a specific surface allows even a perfect square wheel to roll with its centroid at constant height above a reference plane.
